Summary: Possibly AU - "Now it happened that this Candaules was in love with his own lady; and not only so, but thought her the fairest woman in the whole world. This fancy had strange consequences." A tale of how Lucius won Narcissa in the role of Gyges and Narcissa as the Lydian queen from Herodotus' Histories.

I am a lover of Herodotus...the father of history...and this story is perhaps his most famous. The story of Gyges and Candaules is retold in the Oscar-winning film 'The English Patient,' perhaps my favorite film of all time. If you are familiar with the movie, then you are familiar with the retelling of a history by my main man of important world literature, Herodotus. This one shot is just a version of how Lucius and Narcissa 'could' have gotten together...so...well...nevermind. Also, this is my first time writing either character, so please don't hate me if I represent them in a way that is not to your tastes. As for Maxim Mulciber...he is an Original Character. A 'Mulciber' is mentioned in canon, but he is far too old for Narcissa, so I created a son named Maxmillian for my own purposes.
